As with an event, Menzoberranzan can be played at any time, even if a realm has already been played in phase 1. This is a must-have card for most decks. Menzoberranzan cannot be played while Map of Life (413/2nd) is in play.

Menzoberranzan is immune to flyers, and therefore cannot be attacked by flyers. However, the ally The White Weird (51/DU), which is a flyer, can be played as an event to remove a holding from Menzoberranzan.

Because of the phrasing on the card, Menzoberranzan may be attacked by flyers if Takhisis's Helmet Power (18/DL Chase) is in play.

Card Combo: If the holding Border Forts (198/2nd) is attached to Menzoberranzan it becomes almost impossible to attack. It is only vulnerable to events, such as Cataclysm! (99/1st) and Siege! (150/1st), or champions — such as Ankhtepot (84/RL) — that can ignore holding or realm powers.

Although Menzoberranzan may be played at any time, the player with priority must be allowed to play first during this "Menzo pause".

This card should not be played as a realm action if at all possible. Alternately, if you are fairly sure no other player is using Menzoberranzan, it can save your pool of champions if your other realms are all eliminated. If you do think another player has Menzoberranzan in his deck, play it as soon as you get it, denying him the chance.

This realm is not vulnerable to swimmers unless it is exposed.

In the FORGOTTEN REALMS campaign world, the fabled underground city of Menzoberranzan is home to lite powerful and evil drow elves. It is also the birthplace of Drizzt Do'Urden.
