Gulg - instantly destroys the first ally

This is a reprinted card of Gulg (225/3rd). Despite that, it has altered special powers.

As a part of Dark Sun, this realm is able to defend itself as level 7 hero, which is a high level for a realm champion. Additionally, Gulg can instantly destroy the first ally played against this realm or its defender. The special powers of your ally cannot be used unless they are triggered when you destroy it. Gulg is played by the first ally in any battle, so the player does not have a choice which ally to choose. There is no round of battle here, so if an attacker uses an ally (which is discarded) and subsequently wins, the next champion can play an ally without retaliation. This power re-instates itself when Gulg is attacked again for the first time.

Many of the low level allies have nastier powers, such as the Assassins (221/4th), so it pays to get them out of the way before they can do any serious damage.

Gulg is one of the few forest-cities on Athas. With this extra cover, the defenders of Gulg can eliminate the first wave of attackers before they realize there is danger hidden among the trees.
